Module 2 – Service Logic in my industry

This week´s assignment:
Reflect upon your industry and to what extent it is a “service industry”. Is your industry more dominated by a production logic or does it embrace the service logic thinking? How does it articulate itself or look like? For your help and inspiration you could relate to the concepts introduced in the videos related to the first module. You could name the blog post “Service logic in my industry”, or any other title you deem appropriate.

Service Logic in my industry

The company I work in is a traditional production company and manufacturer of heavy commercial vehicles and historically the industry has been seen as classic “goods industry”.

The industry as such are changing though. Customers that historically only bought a vehicle, is now demanding more and more services packages and service solutions connected to their actual vehicle purchase. This has driven the industry towards, just as Anders Gustafsson describes in his video, companies to move from only delivering Product value -  to adding Service value - and further against more “Solutions” (seamless system). In our company we actually say that we aren´t only delivering a vehicle – we offer a transport solution.

If we put this into the context of the new Service Logic that Per Kristenssen presented in his video that everything in a market is about services – this goes very much hand in hand with that. For example, the customer are buying a vehicle to transport goods from point A to point B. When he has delivered the goods to point B, the service has occurred. The service is goods delivery, and to do that he/she need a vehicle. The tool for delivering the service is the vehicle.

  1. I agree with what you are saying about being a company delivering transport services. I also think that vehicals today to a much larger extent incorporate services e.g. services based on telematics.

  2. Also agree, good example for a service. Especially, when the customer receives the product the service is fulfilled!

  4. Interesting blogpost and I think its really inspiring thinking in terms of solutions instead of product value. It's also challenging in the way that you don't control the total service, it may happen things during transport that influence the experience.
